Much is considered and written about the crimes
committed from the aborigines against the white man, nonetheless it should be remembered the blacks were given great provocation.
After targeting about two minutes and a half, he pulled the trigger.

He told Mother that his two black boys became very nasty the evening if
we left their camp; they yelled and sang during most in the night.

Remarkable. I have read almost every book of Jim Harrison's. My son and daughter-in-law are Superintendent and Principal of the Grand Marais School. What a phenomenal place right on the shoreline of Lake Superior. Almost 4 years ago I had just lost my hair, thanks to chemotherapy, drove to Grand Marais, saw a huge boulder out in the Big Lake, waded out and climbed the boulder. My son took a moving photo. Now Jim Harrison I love your UP stories (I LIVED THERE FOR 16 YEARS) BUT I can truly relate with you to the spirituality of The Place and the magnificent Lake Superior. There is no other! I love the Dunes, beer & wine. Thank you Jim Harrison for all you have done to make others lives happier, richer and especially mine.
